In today's society, concern is being expressed over the ultimate fate of chemicals used in manufacturing, and the products containing them. Responding to this concern, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and other international governments are now requiring the submission of more extensive environmental fate and exposure information on chemicals that can reach the air, land or water. When such information is not available or is incomplete, it will be more difficult to market products containing those chemicals because customers will seek alternatives having a more favorable fate description or regulatory designation. For example, any material having chemical and physical characteristics that suggest a persistent, bioaccumulative or toxic fate profile may be subject to restricted use or additional regulation. Those products or materials will become unattractive to the market place. When is an environmental fate assessment necessary? Some form of environmental fate assessment should be considered when any new or modified product is under development. This assessment can be part of a life cycle analysis, where the fate of all materials used in manufacturing process is determined, or it can be a dedicated study on the use and end-of-life fate of the manufactured product. For example, any product that will ultimately be flushed to a sewer or ocean, landfilled or heated and volatized warrants some type of fate assessment. How Omni Tech can help with Fate Assessments Omni Tech scientists with extensive experience in environmental fate and degradation mechanisms will review your specific product program and recommend assessment options appropriate for your desired objectives. A typical consultation can consist of, but is not limited to, the following elements: and end products scientific data This consultation expertise is also available to conduct risk assessments for spill clean-up actions or the remediation of contaminated property sites.
